KPM Fund’s First Scholar Graduates

Kayalviliyi, the first KPM Fund scholar, has completed a four-year nursing degree at the Rajaji Government Hospital in Madurai, India. She is now a Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife (RN/RM). While Kayalviliyi was able to get a government scholarship to cover some costs, the KPM Fund supported her in other critical ways. Contributions included the cost of books, food, uniforms, personal supplies and bus fare, as well as guarantees for these and other study-related expenses for the duration of her program.

She is now awaiting the long process by which she will receive documentation of her study and obtain employment in a government hospital.

Kayalviliyi is one of four children. She has two brothers, one of whom is physically disabled, and a sister. Kayalviliyi’s father left home when she was very young and the family has no knowledge of his whereabouts at present. Her mother has been supporting the family with income from her job as a cook for a family in Madurai.
