Update on KPM Fund Activities
December 2009
Thanks to the generous support of donors like you, we continue to pursue our mission of supporting advanced education for orphans and disadvantaged youth.
Our first scholarship recipient, Kayalviliyi, completed her course of study in Nursing this year. She is currently working at a private clinic awaiting assignment to a post at a government hospital. The government job will triple her current income and assure her of a secure job with benefits.
We have four new scholars embarking on their studies this year:
· Ms. R. Kanagavalli Parker (age 18) has begun a three-year course of studies towards a B.Sc. degree in Information Technology at the C.S.I. College of Arts & Sciences for Women in Madurai.
· Ms. K. Pandiammal (age 18) has started a one-year course of studies towards a Diploma in Nursing & Midwifery at the Annamalai Devadoss Institute of Medical Science in Madurai.
· Ms. Priyanka Parker (age 19) and Ms. D. Renugadevi (age 17) have each begun a four-year course of studies towards a degree in General Nursing and Midwifery at the Christian Fellowship Hospital in Oddanchatram, Dindigul District.
We will share more of these scholars’ stories via the website as they advance in their studies.
You may remember that the KPM Fund is guided by a comprehensive approach to supporting education. Once identified, our scholars are guaranteed support as long as they remain in the program. Support includes tuition, fees, uniforms, books and any additional resources that a scholar may need in light of her individual situation. This approach assures that scholars who live in difficult personal circumstances are able to get the additional support they may need to succeed.
To date, all of our scholars have come to us from the Birds Nest Foundation (orphanage) in Madurai. We have begun to receive inquiries from other institutions, both in India and in other developing countries, about their putting forward candidates for KPMF scholarships.
And so, with adequate funds, we hope to support even more scholars, especially promising young women. We welcome your suggestions for finding new scholar candidates. And, contributions to the KPM Fund, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, are tax-deductible.
Many thanks to all, and best wishes for the holidays and the New Year.
