Update on KPM Fund Activities

December 2010

This year we are pleased to report that all four KPMF scholars have successfully completed their planned programs for the year.

·         Ms. R. Kanagavalli Parker (age 18) has successfully completed the first of a three-year course of studies towards a B.Sc. degree in Information Technology at the C.S.I. College of Arts & Sciences for Women in Madurai.

·         Ms. Priyanka Parker (age 19) and Ms. D. Renugadevi (age 17) have completed the first year of a four-year course of studies towards a degree in General Nursing and Midwifery at the Christian Fellowship Hospital in Oddanchatram, Dindigul District.

The KPMFund has guaranteed support to these scholars, and is well-placed to sponsor them until they complete their programs.

·         Ms. K. Pandiammal (age 18) has completed a one-year course of studies towards a Diploma in Nursing & Midwifery at the Annamalai Devadoss Institute of Medical Science in Madurai. She has been hired on a stipend basis by the hospital where she was trained.

Despite these good results, we are not able to sponsor additional students this year due to a significant reduction in funds received. You may remember that our approach to education support is comprehensive and extends well beyond the tuition. Once identified, our scholars are guaranteed support as long as they remain in the program. Support includes tuition, fees, uniforms, books and any additional resources that a scholar may need in light of her individual situation. This approach assures that scholars who live in difficult personal circumstances are able to get the additional support they may need to succeed.

Our first scholarship recipient, Ms. Kayalviliyi, completed her course of study in 2009 and continues to work at a private clinic awaiting assignment to a post at a government hospital. The government job will triple her current income and assure her of a secure job with benefits.

We are pleased to report that all of your donations to the KPM Fund are 100% directed toward scholarships. Administrative costs associated with maintaining our 501(c)3 status are covered separately. With additional support from you, we hope to support even more scholars, especially promising young women.

And, contributions to the KPM Fund, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, are tax-deductible. We are now accepting donations via PayPal at www.kpmfund.org.

Many thanks to all, and best wishes for the holidays and the New Year.
